2009 Reunion Dinner for Hadrians Old Boys Association

The reunion dinner took place on Saturday 26th September 2009 at the re-named Hallmark Hotel, Carlisle.

The Friday evening rehearsal was well attended and there were a few still in the bar after 2am.

Saturday afternoon saw the arrival of more HOB,s and their wives and once again the bar area was over flowing.

The local newspaper, (Cumberland News), arrived to to find out more about the reunion as Malcolm Tanner had been in contact with them.  They took a few photographs of some of the Old Boys and received some background from Malcolm tanner and Colin Taylor.  As soon as the article is ready it will be published here on the web site.

Saturday evening was a great success with Eric Luckman playing the pipes to welcome all to dinner.  It was the 50th anniversary of the 59 Intakes, but sadly there was only four attending on the night.

Brian Swaine reminded all of us of those that were no longer with us and proposed a toast to Absent Friends.  Grace was said and the evening began. It went on until the wee small hours and some sore heads were around on the Sunday morning.

There has been a number of friendships renewed and they will be carried on until the next reunion in 2011, which will be the 61 Intakes 50th anniversary.

Travel Insurance

Anyone travelling abroad is advised to get a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). The E111 is no longer valid. A European Health InsuranceCard (EHIC) is needed to receive necessary healthcare during a visit to a European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland.

The EHIC is normally valid for three to five years and covers any medical treatment that becomes necessary during a trip, because of either illness or an accident. The card gives access to state-provided medical treatment only, and treatment will be given on the same basis as an "insured" person living in the country being visited. However, this might not cover all the things that might be expected free of charge from the NHS in the UK. A contribution may be necessary towards the cost of care.

The EHIC also covers any treatment needed for a chronic disease of pre-existing illness. Arrangements need to be made in advance for oxygen therapy. For limited information on oxygen supply services in the EEA countries and Switzerland, call the Department of Health's Customer Service Centre on: (0044) 0208 7210 4850.

It is a good idea to buy travel insurance as well as taking the European Health Insurance Card. The British Insurance Brokers Association has a list of firms, which provide travel insurance for people with permanent or recurring illness.
